The Biking Viking

Shared traits include a Norse-derived name (loosely), boatbuilding skills (Jo’s are modest), writing, exploring and trading. As a result, Jo successfully applies for ‘Overseas Citizenship’, meaning he is now entitled to add horns to his cycling helmet.

As Norseman and wife, Jo and Jan load the campervan with age-related medication and orthopaedic accoutrements and continue their travels.

Jo says, ‘If you can escape it’s day-to-day irritations, the UK is an amazing place, diverse and fascinating, particularly if you dig down a bit.’

There’s a near-disaster at Land’s End, a glimpse of the magic of West Wales and another adoption (Arctic Fox!). Plus, there’s a breathtaking encounter with Donald Campbell’s Bluebird in Coniston and a tribute to James Rebanks, farmer turned writer, who opens their eyes to the very soul of Lakeland, adding a human layer to a land that they already love.

Jo has unearthed tantalising hints of a Norse heritage, so.....

he’s become an Honorary Viking!

The Biking Viking is volume 7 of Jo’s ‘At Large’ series.
